All young membrains listen up!

We are happy to announce that the 20th Network Young Membrains Meeting (NYM 2024) will be held on 4-6 September 2024 in Prague, right in the heart of Europe and the capital of the Czech Republic.

Come explore the magic of membranes to the city of a hundred spires and celebrate with us the 20th anniversary of the NYM!

This year’s special NYM is continuing the tradition of bringing together young “membrains” from all over the world to build a friendly community network with a common professional focus: membranes.

All students and young working professionals, you are invited to come and share your work, ideas and even struggles with the community!

The program of this year’s NYM aims to open various topics that are connected to membrane science, membrane modules, green chemistry and all processes that employ membranes. Let’s present, discuss, inspire, and get inspired!

What is up for this year’s program?

Plenary lectures presented by 3 professionals from academic, industrial and startup backgrounds to bring you both the knowledge and inspiration for your work.

Oral lectures given by you, the participants. As the number of lectures is limited, we highly encourage you to sign up as early as possible!

Poster session to present your ideas on the traditional poster format with enough time to dive into your niche topic and brainstorm new ideas.

Excursion to Membrane Innovation Centre (MemBrain company), which belongs to the MEGA group. MemBrain focuses particularly on the transfer of research results into commercial practice in the field of membranes and membrane processes. Read more about the company here.

Social event on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of NYM.

Best presentation awards granted by the European Membrane Society will be given to the best lectures and posters presented by students. Originality, quality of the results and presentation itself will be evaluated.

This event is partnered with Euromembrane 2024. We highly encourage and recommend the participants to attend both conferences to stay connected with the recent developments in the field of membranes!

NYM scientific program is currently under construction.

Plenary speakers

Karel Friess

Prof. Karel Friess, PhD

Prof. Karel Friess is the head of the Membrane Separation Group at UCT Prague, member of the EMS Council, a well-established researcher in the membrane community, author of multiple highly cited scientific papers that are mainly focused on membrane materials for gas and liquid separations. His talk will be focused on the fundamentals of membrane materials, membrane technology, and the recent developments in the research fields connected to membranes.

Daniel Bouša

Daniel Bouša, PhD

Daniel started his career at UCT Prague and then decided to start his own startup company with the know-how he had acquired over the years in academia. Daniel Bousa, Ph.D., is CEO of ART CARBON®, an expert on inorganic materials, membrane synthesis and scale-up. His speech will be mostly focused on how to transfer your original ideas into the commercial sphere, how to develop your startup company, and what projects his company currently focuses on, implementing the application of carbon-based nanomaterials for purification of various types of water.

Tomáš Kotala

Tomáš Kotala

Tomas is a senior researcher at MemBrain within MEGA Group, focuses on water purification technologies, chemical engineering, and food processing. His expertise includes integrating machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) into membrane technology, transforming traditional methods in the field. His presentation will explore the application of ML in predicting membrane performance and the use of generative AI in managing Competitive Intelligence (CI) information flows. He aims to provide insights into the current technological landscape, challenges, and prospects, motivating young professionals and students to innovate and advance in membrane science.
